Valtrex’s dosage depends on the type and severity of the symptoms of herpes:
In the event of using Valtrex tablets for the treatment of genital herpes (herpes simplex), you should take two 500 mg tablets each day for 10 consecutive days (a set of 2×10 tablets), and in the case of a relapse of the disease, take one tablet a day for 3-5 days (a set of 1×10 tablets). If the disease proves to be extremely resistant to treatment, it may be necessary to take the tablets every day until the symptoms disappear (a set of 2×42 tablets – enough for a three-month treatment). If the virus has a tendency to recur no more than 10 times a year, then it is recommended to take Valtrex tablets prophylactically every 6 – 12 months.
For the symptoms of herpes resulting from the first attack of the herpes simplex virus, two 500 mg tablets should be taken for up to 10 days (a set 2×10 tablets). The re-emergence of symptoms of viral activity should be treated with tablets of the same dosage, but only for a period of 3-5 days (a set of 1 x 10 tablets).
In the treatment of shingles (herpes zoster), it is recommended to take two 500 mg Valtrex tablets three time a day for one week, or 6 tablets per day for 7 days (a set of 1×42 tablets).
Valtrex is most effective when it is used from the very beginning of the viral infection.
